There are reports that some external programs seem to
hang the TeXmacs interface for unknown reasons.

I have a bit of evidence that may help to isolate this
problem.

I have two scripts in Bash and Perl which read
input and echo it back to the user. These scripts
produce identical output, yet the Perl script doesn't
work in TeXmacs.

Since the output is the same, it would seem that
TeXmacs is affected by the way in which the external
program reads the pipe.
