ah i forgot something important; an approach i took intially for this is try to device a template pipeline for psfrag that could be used independently from texmacs.

One such pipeline for this would involve producing output eps with latex markup from the input eps with embedded latex text commands, according to this:

raw eps -> bare .tex document which only includes the image with psfrag -> compilation produced .dvi -> dvips produces a ps -> ps2pdf produces a pdf and finally -> pdftops -eps -f 1 produces an eps from the first page of the pdf document

this looks ok, the only detail that lacks this pipeline to be perfect is that the output eps is a whole page! and trying one of those scripts (psrip) that lie around there that rips eps from ps documents just removes also, the latex markup :/

maybe someone knows something that could improve this? :)
