Well, WTF and no mistake! I checked out the TeXmacs-1_0_16_4 tag
(apparently 1.0.16.5 was never tagged), did a binary search with cvsps
and ... the problem disappeared!!! I can only guess that during the
search one of the intermediate versions auto-fixed something in my
font setup that was causing the crash. Or maybe the released 1.0.16.5
did it. Is that plausible?
