1. Download TeXmacs-*-src.tar.gz into some directory.
   
2. Go to that directory and open the "configure" file in an text editor.
   
3. Look for a line "powerpc-*-darwin*))"
4. Replace it with "i*86-*-darwin* | powerpc-*-darwin*))"
5. Save the file and exit.
   
6. Open a terminal, go to that directory, and type "make"  and press "enter"  -- go have a coffee.
   
7. When you return, type "make install" and press enter.
   
8. TeXmacs will be installed in /usr/local/share
9. type "/usr/local/bin/texmacs"  in same terminal window and you will see that TeXmacs starts up.

I share that point of view if you are a programmer. It's not my case. I have 
to have installed Xcode and a lot of developer tools to install several Fink 
packages I use, like Inkscape or TeXmacs. I believe that I would save much 
more disc space using bundles than using Fink + developer tools.
