Hi,

I am interested in TeXmacs as an interface to maxima. I have a question on usage patterns so any links to manuals and tutorials are appreciated.

Usually I turn on "mathematical input" option within maxima session. I was trying to use variables with subscripts, e.g. \lambda_1, \lambda_2 in TeX notation. The expressions were looking nice and I was quite happy. Later I have noticed that I can not use such variables for local variables in block([\lambda_1, \lambda_2: 10], ...) or temporary replace context in ev(..., \lambda_1: 10, \lambda_2: 15). This happens due to they have hashed list representation (lambda[1], lambda[2]) in TeXmacs-maxima interface. More curious is that \lambda_c after "c:3e8" assignment becames \lambda_{30000000}. Atom variables \lambda1 or \lambda\_1 (with literal underscore symbol that requires F5 key in math mode) work fine but the expressions became less readable.

Another pain is single quote character ' to prevent evaluation. In math mode it transforms to \prime. Is there another way to insert it besides a text box?

Due to my little experience I admit that I do completely wrong things and there is a much better way. Is it possible to combine pretty looking variables with subscripts with properties of atoms and avoid translation subscripts to list indexes that are undesirable in some contexts?

Thanks in advance.
