On that I have to pass the word to the developers, I do not know enough to answer. I have seen this behaviour for a while in my system, then no more, and I do not know or do not remember what changed.

So: Max, Darcy, Joris, do you know something about thia?

I went through the process like you said but whenever I start up TeXmacs with the command `texmacs &` it has to create a new fontconfig directory wherever I opened up my terminal. Is that normal?

I installed TeXmacs on Ubuntu 18.04 (LTS) using the generic binary package at https://www.texmacs.org/tmweb/download/unix.en.html.

I put the commands suggested in the download page

export TEXMACS_PATH=[installation directory]
export PATH=$TEXMACS_PATH/bin:$PATH

inside a text file named texmacs.sh that I placed in the /etc/profile.d directory (need administrative rights for that).

After which, I start texmacs by typing texmacs & in a terminal window.

Please let me know if that works for you.

I'm wanting to try out TeXmacs but saw there isn't an ready-to-install package for Ubuntu 19.10. I was wondering what the best way to install TeXmacs might be in my case.

Thanks,
