Hi all,

We are happy to announce the release of GNU TeXmacs 1.0.
This first official major release of TeXmacs should be stable
and sufficiently complete for most ordinary and scientific use.
More precisely, the system now supports:

* Most classical editing facilities like cut & paste,
search & replace, undo & redo, spell checking,
multiple windows, etc.

* Most mathematical typesetting primitives.

* A powerful table editing facility, inclusion of graphics,
hyperlinks and inclusions, tables of contents, indexes,
bibliographies, etc.

* Structured documents with dynamic macros.
Style files can be created by the user.

* A fully customizable user interface via
the Guile/Scheme extension language.

* A reasonably good TeXmacs to LaTeX converter.

* Support for many languages: Czech, Dutch, English, French,
German, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian,
Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

* Interfaces with several computer algebra and numerical systems:
Maxima, Mupad, Pari, Macaulay 2, Reduce, Scilab,
Yacas, gTybalt, Qcl and soon Maple, Mathematica and Axiom.

* User support, online documentations, possibilities for
contributing, etc. on

http://www.texmacs.org/Web/Support.html
http://alqua.com/tmresources

* And much more!

As to the future, the focus for version 1.1 will be on further
stabilization of the editor and the design of very good converters
from and to different data formats (TeX/LaTeX, Html, Xml, etc.).
Other web-publication tools, a spreadsheet, and a scientific
drawing editor, etc. will also be integrated in the years to come.

Best regards,

Joris van der Hoeven
