It depends on what you mean by dt.
1. If you type "d t", then you get the operator "dt"
2. If you type "d * t", then you get "d" multiplied by "t"
3. If you type "d space t", then you get "d" applied to "t"
4. If you select text mode, the italic shape and type "d t",
then you get "dt" in italic.
Notice also that \d, \e, \i and can be used for the operator "d" and
the constants "e" and "i".
