Seems to me that TeXmacs prefers the metafont sources of fonts for generating
tfm. I may be wrong, but if you look at (for example) Palatino, and you try
the ligatures (fi, ffi and so on), non of them behaves like a ligature (at
least on my machine): it's not a font problem, since under LaTeX this font
has got the ligs. Same with the pair kerning (i tried the VA pair). It seems
that the tfm (-> .mf) does not contain the required information. This is not
the case if I use CM fonts.

Ok. but how to actually use the fonts? Are they going to "appear" in the
TeXmacs menu?
I got a bunch of tfm's for my font. But their names (for example: padr8a.tfm)
seem not to be "compatible" with the naming scheme TeXmacs (+metafont...)
use. I'm a bit confused now :(
