OK thanks. The keyword "Cork encoding" gives a few enlightening references on
the web. Definitely a strange matter: character encoding in TeX. I would
really favor some solution using Unicode in TeXmacs and encapsulate the
TeX-encoding in the font rendering engine. But that's probably a matter
deeply connected within the design of the core of TeXmacs... :-(
