No; style and class files mostly have to be rewritten,
but I recently greatly improved the tools (+ documentation)
for doing this.

Ok. Thanks. Then TeXmacs is really not for me. In most cases, I do need *strict* adherence to the journal / thesis class files. I will try it again after a few months. Hopefully, this aspect would have been fixed by then.
