When I type \S in TeXmacs, or the equivalent "S-F5 p", I see the paragraph 
symbol in the
lower right-hand corner (minibuffer), but I get a blank on the screen.

When I make a small test document containing a couple of characters and \S, 
and I then
export it in Postscript, I see that only the cmr10 font is used.  The 
character made by
\S is in the cmsy10 font, so something appears to be wrong.
