Real layers are planned for the next version. Currently, what works
very well is grouping objects. Thus one can get a rough emulation
for layers.

You can also use several Text boxes, and insert a drawing
inside each one of those, but the edition doesn't work very
well with this... (but it definitely works with images inside
the text Boxes).
