I've had some problems with font compatibilty with versions 1.0.5.10 
and above, which I think was related to my TeX distribution. At the 
time I was using Gerben Wierdas teTeX distribution installed via 
i-Installer (recognized in fink as a system-tetex package). I've since 
switched to a teTeX installed via fink, and that solved all my 
problems, maybe you could try the same?
