Thanks for the reply which put me on the right way.
This really seems to be a DOS problem and this is also the reason that the
message is in German, although I switched WinTexMacs to English language.
Maxima runs normally from the command point, no problems.
I tried several suggestions to encrease the space for the environment
variables, but wasn't successful: Neither adding the line
shell=c:\Windows\command.com /e:2048 /p
to config.sys
nor adding
[NonWindowsApp]
CommandEnvSize=2048
to system.ini
resulted in any change of behavior.
I also tried to reduce the number of characters in the PATH statement, but
this was also not successfull.
Any further suggestions? I am confident that Linus is the best of all OS, but
I have to work with Windows for several reasons.
