Hello TeXmacs users,

I am trying to add reference/bibliography to an article that I am writing using
TeXmacs (Cygwin). I followed the instructions "Compiling a bibliography"
specified in the program manual. But I could not get it work. Hope you can
help.

Here is how I did the test

1. Export a reference library in EndNote to a text file test.bib. In this test
case there is only one reference. I added the article ID "fridlyand" after
exporting.

@article{fridlyand,
Author = {Fridlyand, J and Snijders, A. M. and Pinkel, D. and Albertson, D.
G. and Jain, A. N. A. N.},
Title = {Hidden Markov models approach to the analysis of array CGH data},
Journal = {Journal of Multivariate Analysis},
Volume = {90},
Number = {1},
Pages = {132-153},
Year = {2004} }

2. Create test.tm. Use "Insert->Link->Citation->Visible" to insert a citation.
The text looks like:

This is a test page <cite|fridlyand>.

3. Move cursor two lines down and click on "Text->Automatic->Bibliography". At
the prompt, I entered "plain" as the bibtex style and "test" as my .bib file.
Now the text looks like:

This is a test page <cite|fridlyand>.

Bioliography

4. Use "Document->Update->Bibliography" to compile my bibliography. This didn't
work.

I don't know what went wrong. Please help. Thanks.

Where did you put this test.bib file? I'm using openSUSE linux so I
don't know about Cygwin, but I have to put the .bib file
under .TeXmacs/system/bib for it to compile. There must be some similiar
folder under Cygwin that you need to put your test.bib into, for TeXmacs
to recognize it.

I think the rest of your steps are correct.

Thanks for the reply. Initially both test.tm and test.bib were both in my home
dir. Taking your suggestion, I moved test.bib to .TeXmacs/system/bib. But this
didn't make it work.
