Finally I got some time to use gdb to find out what was wrong with
texmacs / suse 10.2
There are 2 problems:
1) As shipped with suse 10.2, texmacs 1.0.6.6 refuses to start,
complaining about wrong guile version (shipped guile 1.8.1).
2) There is some sort of bug in freetype2-2.2.1, specifically within
"FT_Load_Glyph()".
The solution of course is to upgrade to freetype 2.3.1 and latest texmacs.

Hello!
I've just upgraded to suse 10.2.
There is a nasty problem, in which texmacs freezes whenever "y" or "g"
are typed. It happens when you are in some environments, like <em>, or
in titles.
It also freezes when trying to read some file which contains the
mentioned characters.
So, I'm unable to use TeXmacs right now :(
Tried recompiling with guile 1.6.8 and 1.8.1, with no success.
Also tried with several encodings, like utf8 and ISO-8859-1.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated!
