I also have the same problem. TeXmacs 1.0.6.12 under Ubuntu 8.04,
compiled from source with 7.10.

I see some characters like "-E -E -E egindocument -E Ar[r] B -E en"
and then the error message already reported.

Probably it is an issue with the interface from TeXmacs, since Xypic
works fine on my system, see (and try) attached .tex file.
