I find the search utility not really handy, each time I use it I feel a bit
uneasy. I think that a more traditional solution with a separate window with a
"search" and "substitute" field and buttons to search forward and backward
would be easier to use.
Perhaps it is because I never used emacs. I am used either to the vim
shortcuts
(/, ?, s) or the typical gedit (or openoffice, or word) windows for "search"
and "substitute". It is a small think but the search and substitute utility is
very much used all the time and I still did not get accustomed to the way
texmacs has it.
A more innovative thing would be to be able to do also search and
substitutions
of mathematical constructs (such as changing \sqrt{x} with x^{1/2} in
formulas).
