My guess is that you are missing a symlink for the mathlink library in
/usr/lib/ . Please see my howto post on the list (dated today) on how to get
the Mathematica plugin running. Let me know if it still fails.

One last word: I have found that compiling a version later than about SVN rev
4122, there is a text encoding problem that causes communication problems with
Mathematica.
