I had the very same problem with Acrobat Reader not opening a .pdf created with TeXmacs. What worked in my case was to open the .pdf with Evince, print it as .pdf from within Evince and that newly created .pdf was flawlessly opened by Acrobat Reader.

I never would have thought of using epstopdf on a multi-page document -
but it works.
