TeXmacs now attempts to conform to the standard shortcuts for your OS.
The help indicates the shortcuts which are valid on your system.
For the German Umlauts, please do

    Help -> Manual -> Typing simple texts

Notice that you may select other keyboard shortcut schemes in

    Edit -> Preferences -> Look and feel
