The beamer problem seems to be that the background is emitted for each page, and is duplicated in the final ps.

This may have a benefit if it means that a smaller graphics is duplicated instead of the larger one - nice for you - but the beamer problem is a different problem.

Does it by any chance fix the same problem with the export of beamer
document? (The problem is that the background texture is replicated
and the ps grows enormously with larger presentations. ps2pdf
compresses it back to reasonable size.)
