All plug-in folds come with an input part and an output part, yes.

I don't know, but among the people that I know who do software demos
with TeXmacs, this is quite a popular thing.

We do not really have adequate support for folded _sections_ yet.

Folds are not optimized for speed, especially when using varsession,
which is based on tables. I definitely want to do something about
this one day, but probably not sometime soon.
