TeXmacs is not compatible with Guile 2.0, which compiles the scheme code and
thus makes it very hard to combine with TeXmacs' module system. You need to
install Guile 1.8.

Check src/TeXmacs/langs/natural/dic. By the way, if you are interested in
contributing to the translations, please do enable the "Developer tool" in
the Tools menu and look for the items in the new "Developer" menu related to
translations. Though still in alpha stage (loading of non-utf8 files will
fail, for instance), you may find of use:
* Rebuild translations file:
This overwrites the current dictionary on disk with its previous contents
plus all translations that had taken place in the GUI (up to the time of
clicking the menu item). This adds some strings that might not make much
sense like numbers, etc, but it's a first step I hope.
* Force reloading of translations:
This does just that: tells TeXmacs to reread the dictionary from disk and
update the GUI.
This functionality is buggy and bound to disappear as soon as I / we think of
a better method, so don't sweat it if it doesn't exactly work, and
****always**** backup your work. Suggestions are welcome though (aside from
using .po files, yes, I know that'd be great).

I think in a first stage the C++ and scheme code won't enlighten you much
wrt. to the styles and macros. Maybe the best would be to peruse the style
files in src/TeXmacs/packages and src/TeXmacs/styles: first find something
that interests you in the documentation (use the search!!), and after reading
the almost surely succinct description grep for it in the style files and
read the related stuff.
A key concept to keep in mind is that of quoting and unquoting. You can read
about it in any scheme tutorial, and it's mostly the same for the macros
language.
If you still want to experiment with the scheme code, read the relevant parts
of the manual (scheme development, etc.), enable the developer mode and use
the scheme session a lot and read the code (meta+click on symbols to jump to
definitions). I like to use the symbol browser to look for commands that
might do what I want (type a regular expression in the filter, for instance
"url-.*\?" to look for predicates related to urls.)
Scheme is real fun!!! But it definitely won't get your research / work done
or written. Trust me. ;)
Best,
