TeXmac's macros work mainly with textual substitution. It is not an
arithmetic language.
So, "3*5" is the "good" result after processing your code.
If you want to get an arithmetic multiplication, you may use the times
macro. But if you want to evaluate more than trivial expression, I
advise you to do it using another language (e.g. Maxima, or Scheme ...)
