Yes, I have also discovered recently that the X11 version does not compile
anymore. This is because of the change made in rev. 9829, but I did not
investigate how to fix the problem.
Large documents are best handled by breaking them into pieces and
aggregating them at the end using <include>. Then you only edit (relatively
small) pieces.
How large is your document? Does it have many images?
