There are some proprietary converters from word to LaTeX that you might want to try before importing the book into texmacs from LaTeX.

I think I would try various things to see what works best, starting with exporting from Word as HTML then as RTF, trying HTML import in TeXmacs, as well as importing LaTeX produced by converting those. I think that going to LaTeX then importing will work better, but I'm not certain.
