As for the forum: SE has better visibility but for the moment seems hard for us to get into the required limits. They seems very hard for our community. So I suggest that we try both ways: continue to push for the SE proposal and in parallel use the Discourse forum. If the SE proposal goes thru then we discuss what to do. In the meanwhile this would give the community a place to experience with the forum-type of interaction, which to me seems more focused than the mailing list.

thanks for the answer.
I am learning to use the macros and would like to write one that formats references automatically according to what it finds in the label.
I knew that asking in two different places I would cause some confusion (that is, parallel discussions that are not coherent with each other).
So: for the problem, Massimiliano solved it; you can see Massimiliano's solution in the Discourse forum under the link posted by Darcy Shen or this is the synthesis as I understand it:
As one types \extract return, the macro \extarct is called without an argument, and this causes the segmentation fault. The solution is to not to aallow the interactive editing of the argument.
For the parallel mailing list/forum, I think it is best if all developers talk among them and decide which to use.

Hi Giovanni,I am not sure what the macro is intended for. Could you specify the exact sequence of steps that produce the crash? In particular, how do you use it? Is the crash occurring when you define the macro, or when you use it?

Dear all,
Texmacs crashes when executing the "extract" macro which I define with
<assign|extract|<macro|lab|<range|<arg|lab>|1|2>>>
I sent the same message about two months ago without receiving an answer, so I try again (I have submitted a bug report on Savannah). Could someone tell me if it is a trivial mistake on my part? Or if they can reproduce the crash? I would like to play a bit with macros and I need simple ones to work :-)
(post-scriptum: I post this message on the Discourse forum too, hoping that the double posting does not cause confusion)
