Hello Amir,
I don't think it is necessary to modify the current behavior. You could type \slink <return>, set up a keyboard shortcut for Link to URL or, if you are using Unix, set up a sed script to surround your url's with <slink| * > a posteriori.

I use TeXmacs as a note taking tool and paste a lot of URLs into my document.
The problem is that I have to manually invoke "Insert->Link->Link to URL" to convert each link to a URL object.
I think this should be done automatically, perhaps with an option to undo the conversion.
