Hello,

Thanks for the responses. Let me ask more about typesettings. Sometimes I found that characters are way too crowded while sometimes I found the spaces between characters are too large. Maybe it is also a case that "they find it strange when a program does things right"?

When I input the residue formula

(equation* (document (concat "res" (rsub (concat "z" (rsub "0"))) (around* "(" "<omega>" ")") "=" (frac "1" "2*<mathi>*<pi>") "*" (big "int") (rsub "<gamma>") "<omega>")))

which is rendered as (see residue.png in the attachment).

I find that the spaces between 2, i, \pi are very large, however the contour \gamma seems to horizontally "intersect" with the integrand \omega.

Here is another one more abnormal in my eyes (see attachment ainf.png):

(math (concat "A" (rsub "inf") (around* "(" "" ")")))

The subscript f is overlapping the subsequent parenthesis "(". It is also interesting that this happens only when I set the font size to be 12pts (which is my default setting. I find 10pts too small).

Best wishes,

Hi Frank & Basile,

I do not think that this is entirely a matter of taste.
Kerning is traditional technique that typographers use to
improve the rendering of documents. TeX/LaTeX does not
support kerning for subscripts and superscripts and
it is possible that some people got so used to this deficiency
that they find it stange when a program does things right...

Hi Frank,
I am not exactly sure what you mean by subsequent parentheses, but I like the
current spacing. I think it is a matter of taste.
You can fine-tune the positioning of the indices using the Format > Adjust
submenu.

Dear all,

I fail to put the subscripts of Gamma nicely. Here is my code:

(concat "<Gamma>" (rsub "c"))

I find that c is way too close to the Gamma script. If I have a subsequent
parenthesis, then the spacing looks awkward.

I wonder a solution for this. Thanks!
