Hi Basile

Many thanks! I believe I can take it from here.

Thank you all for the great help!

Best regards,

Ed

Apologies for not following up earlier. Giovanni, you are absolutely right.

To change the size and alignements, start by selecting cells, and then use the menu Format > Cell…
* (say,) Width / Minimum / 2cm
* Alignment …

There are also shortcuts in the focus toolbar, see the Cell > Cell Properties… and the 4th one in this group.

You seen use these menus on the example I sent earlier to access my settings.

It might make sense to have a look at the general documentation on tables, in the Jolly Writer for instance.

Regards,
Basile.

Hi Giovanni

Many thanks.  Your instructions were very helpful.  Now I have to figure out how to set the spacing and alignment.  It is under cell size, right?

I think that the critical thing is to insert  a subtable inside a table. After you know how to do that: in the table Basile attached to his message there are a few subtables. The table is so composed (please Basile correct possible mistakes):

- overall, four cells: two rows of two cells each

- a subtable in the top right cell, made up of one row

- a subtable in the bottom left cell, made up of three rows, one cell in each row

- a 3x3 subtable in the bottom right cell, enclosed in brackets

Once you have this design down, we can then get into the spacing and alignment.

Thanks you!   Unfortunately I did not figure out how you built the table.  Would you be so kind to write down the steps on how to do it?

I agree that being able to label rows and column would be nice. Here is the best (not perfect) solution I have found so far.

I have forced the width of all cells to 3em.

If the different rows have different heights (say because some rows include fractions and some don’t), you could alternatively use <vphantom|> to force the height of label to match the height of the tallest box on the same row.

Hi Eduardo,

a start might be inserting tables inside a table, so that you may frame the rectangular inner table with brackets and have a row matrix and a column matrix on its sides. I do not see, however, how to make sure that the inner matrix stays aligned with the ones on the sides.

Hi

I'm trying to recreate the matrix shown in the attached image using LaTeX and also TeXmacs, but I'm having some trouble — especially on how to get the matrix notation.

Do you have any tips or could you point me in the right direction on how to do this?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best,

Ed
