Yes, TeXmacs is the only program with which I am experiencing this
problem. I do not believe it is actually related to TeXmacs itself.
I'm moreso looking for some insight as to what might cause something
like this to occur, ie a strange glibc or something such as. There are
two reasons that I don't believe that it is directly related to TeXmacs:

1) TeXmacs works fine on a friend's box, which is more-or-less
equivalent down to the distro used.

2) I'm getting this problem with several versions of TeXmacs:
1.0.0.21, which worked VERY well on my old install, 1.0.1.14, 1.0.1.21,
1.0.1.23.
