That's exactly what I experienced with all my images (jpg, png, ps). This blinking and vanishing is a very funny effect (not so funny til I got rid of the problem though ;-)

I tried to convert the postscript files to EPS using Image Magic but I got a low resolution bitmap.

Try bmeps.sourceforge.net, it works great!
