I am not the OP but after clicking on

Help -> Seach -> Documentation...

nothing seems to happen. The errors on the command line are

$texmacs
TeXmacs] With linked TrueType support
<unnamed port>: In procedure scm_lreadr in expression (primitive-load name):
<unnamed port>: /usr/share/texmacs/TeXmacs/progs/doc/docgrep.scm:60:56:
illegal character in escape sequence: #\`
TeXmacs] Loading corktounicode
TeXmacs] Loading unicode-cork-oneway
TeXmacs] Loading tmuniversaltounicode
TeXmacs] Loading unicode-symbol-oneway

Using Debian Etch, 1.0.6.9 .

Any ideas/suggestions?

thanks
