is there a way of having TeXmacs run only one instance, i.e. after typing
$ texmacs a.tm&
$ texmacs b.tm&
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough ; specifically, in any linux distribution, file
managers associate ".tm" files to the "texmacs" program so that TeXmacs is
executed once you have clicked on a ".tm" file. How to avoid several TeXmacs
instances to be run when the user wants to display several files by opening
them via its file manager ?
One hack that might require minimal modification to TeXmacs would be to
add a command line option which permits one to send scheme commands to a
running instance of TeXmacs. This way, a shell script could be written
which would check to see if TeXmacs was already running. If it were, it
would send a command to open the file as Krzysztof suggests. Otherwise,
it would simply start up TeXmacs and open the file as normal. You could
probably then tell your window manager to associate *.tm files with this
script instead of the texmacs executable itself.
