Hi all,

This is a memo for installing TeXmacs on EeePC.

Memo for remastering EeePC as mobile system with CAS

For the purpose to set up a compact system with CAS environment in Eee PC, I
directly installed software via "synaptic" since the PC uses Xandos Linux with
2.6.22 kernel. Almost after one hour trying, a compact CAS on Eee PC was
created.

Google from web about EeePC information: "etch" is the best one for system
upgrading. Another reason for choosing upgrading system but not reinstalling
another Linux is that EeePC uses several new hardwares , webcam, network and
wifi chipsets etc, that can not be autodetected by other linux system even
Ubuntu-7.10.


1. Open "synaptic"

add http://http.us.debian.org/debian etch main non-free contrib

2. Add packages by synaptic:
gcc-4.2.1, g++-4.1.2, make, guile, texmacs-1.0.6 ( later removed ),
maxima, gnuplot, gcl, octave, libfreetype,
python: idle, visual, pygame, matplotlib, simpy, scipy-0,5,2,
boa-construct. (python-2.4 in the system)
bluefish, gimp-2.2

I don't know the reason why: as gcl was installed, it can not work but
works after reboot PC.

3. install from source:
texmacs-1.0.6.12
lampp-1.6
imathas with data

The last two is used to test our math quiz bank. "make STATIC_TEXMACS"
failed in istallation, "make" replaced.

4. Add application icon in "toolbar":
a) 5 pictures needed: program.png, accessibility_program_hi.png,
bussiness_program_hi.png, home_program_hi.png,
student_program_hi.png

b) modify /opt/xandros/share/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc:

Download the official TeXmacs logo, made 5 icons and modified simpleui.rc as

5. Caption:

Defaulted display of the system is 800x480, it makes TeXmacs working
more smoothly.
Question: Why can we not make a label with math symbol as picture
shown? for example: \sigma algebra fails,
b) maxima(-5.10.0, etch) plugin:

After installed, there are still about 500mb space left. It is not too hard to
enlarge the space, for example: cheap SD, MMC are worthing cost.

Question about TeXmacs: If the book style is used, why does the index begin
from the preface but not from the content of body, for example: indexing from
chapter 1?
