Keep in mind that in TeXmacs the TAB key is used constantly to switch between alternatives ("variants") of symbols / environments / etc...

It would be better if \backslash can work else where (currently only in math mode). I just guessed '\backslash' but not things like '\ tab'.

You mean 'backslash' (the '\' character) ?
What about '\ tab' ?
