In many cases it can.  But I much prefer the native version, which I compile from source.
In any case, I downgraded Qt to 5.14, recompiled, and now plugins work in 1.99.14.

So something seems to have changed in Qt 5.15 with respect to pipes, at least for FreeBSD.

Does you mean than FreeBsd cannot run a linux executable ?

Denis,

Maybe there is a confusion? FreeBSD is not Linux.

Hi,
What Texmacs package did you get B, C, xUbuntu, Debian ? Because we don't
provide FreeBsd package
In case of trouble, I advice to take the C package which has a static link
with Qt4.8.

Can someone say with which version of Qt5 is TeXmacs 1.99.14 (or 1.99.13, for
that matter) supposed to work?

I have Qt 5.15 on FreeBSD, and both 1.99.13 and 1.99.14 segfault when I try
to use *any* plugin (except Scheme).
GDB shows that the problem has to do with libQt5Core, more specifically with
the use of Qt pipes. This problem did not occur with Qt 5.14.

Dear all,

I am happy to announce the release of TeXmacs 1.99.14 which features
many bug fixes, improved Octave and Qt 5 support, and an even better
converter to Html. The new converter is stylable using CSS,
which should allow you to produce nice web versions of your papers
that are readable on multiple devices. My personal website shows
