1. root launches:
updatedb
then
locate texmacs |less
Is is sure that you have a /usr/bin/texmacs, although,
after compilation of release 1.0.0.7, I have
/usr/local/bin/texmacs.
If you have both, delete /usr/bin/texmacs or rename it
(it is hiding the correct /usr/local/bin/texmacs
since its $PATH is given _before_ in your
configuration files).
In my opinion, texmacs should then work.

If you have only /usr/local/texmacs, edit it
and change the path for binaries for the correct
one (it is then a bug in the rpm).
It should then work.

If nothing works, download the sources of 1.0.0.7:
I just compiled it under Mandrake 8.2. Everything
seeems to work, although the documentation
is not yet updated. (Or, if you are afraid,
a older version...)

Best regards
