That is well known bug.

You can use [Edit->Preferences->View->Shrinking factor].

BTW, I have figured out one gets the best screen quality by using a
shrinking factor of 3. This setting produces properly antialiased
characters, yet they are sharper and *much* darker than what you get
with a shrinking factor of 5. Of course, with such low shrinking one
also have to reduce the document dpi (360 to get the default scaling).

I have worked out some stuff to use a "screen dpi", "antialiasing
factor" and "reduction factor" (for previews) which I believe is much
more practical (and closer to users needs) than the current "dpi" and
"shrinking factor". It is still experimental and require significant
tweaking of the distribution files (to provide save-hooks,
revert-hooks and switch-buffer-hooks). I plan to sumbmit it the next
weekend. Anyone interested?

TeXmacs is NOT a LaTeX front-end and is unrelated to emacs.
