I am happy to see that hack is actually useful for other people.

Yes, the trick is to "Disactivate the table" (there is menu item for
that) so you can directly edit the table properties from inside
TeXmacs.

Yes, the "length arithmetic in typesetter" is a bit of a hack and does
not really fit in the rest of the user interface.
