Dylan,
I don't know if this is the "right way" or not,
but the way I do this is with
Insert/Table/Plain Tabular
For example, type some text like
wwwwww wwwww xxx yyy zzzz zzzz zzz
Now suppose you want to keep 'xxx yyy' together as a
single "word" that does not wrap at the space.
Highlight just 'xxx yyy' then choose
Insert/Table/Plain Tabular
from the menu. Now if you add extra "words" at the
beginning of the line until it would wrap, the stuff
that you highlighted will be wrapped as a single unit.
You can also use
Insert/Table/Plain Block
if for some reason you like the box around the text.
