Maybe you can use the ESCAPE key as a workaround for the time being.
The TeXmacs 'Help->Manual->Getting started' states that "... you may
use ESCAPE instead of M-, ESCAPE ESCAPE instead of A- and F5, ESCAPE
ESCAPE ESCAPE or A-C- instead of H-".
