Of course, it is !
Hi,
I would like to find out if it is possible to install texmacs on a Sun server running solaris 8.
I have tried installing the binary TeXmacs-1.0.4-R3-static-gnu-linux.tar.gz but on trying to run it I got a syntax error as follows…Strange. I would not expect such an error message when running a binary file... This look more
texmacs.bin: syntax error at line 1: `(' unexpected
like the kind of things which happen when one tries to run a bash script using tcsh, or something
like that.
Anyway, it is not sure that the Solaris/Linux binary compatibility works very well, so it would be
much better to compile from the sources (10mn on my pentium 2Ghz : this is not a big deal, and
it works well).
I was thinking of trying to compile from source, but from what I can gather I would need to compile and install other products before I could do this. You need very few things in fact, namely Guile (Scheme interpreter) and FreeType (free library for true
type fonts). It could be useful to install Metafont, also, but TeXmacs should work without that, I think.
It should be noted that you --don't-- need to install TeX/LaTeX in order to install TeXmacs.
