That indeed does work nice in texmacs, however try exporting the following
file to latex:
<TeXmacs|1.0.4.5>
<style|generic>
<\body>
<assign|real|<with|mode|math|\<bbb-R\>>><value|real><with|mode|math|<value|

</collection>
</initial>
I think that the moral of your answer is: This is not a lack of feature in
texmacs, but a bug in the latex exportation!?
