Hello all, I am unable to find anything in the documentation as to the
appropriate line to put in the my-init-texmacs.scm file so that a
TeXmacs session starts with varsession enabled.

You currently cannot, because the set of packages you
use is a property of the document.

That explains it, thanks for the info. I was asking since I am hoping
using TeXmacs with Maxima as the tool of choice in various of our math
courses next year and I would have liked to preset this so students
would have it as the default look. Oh well, the default colouration is
more than adequate.

You can still do it by preparing a void document which uses the particular package
you want, and tell your students that they must start from this void document. And
after this, if the students want to do their own documents, explain them how to do it.

As far as documentation is concerned, there are some tutorials available :

The official TeXmacs tutorial :
[[
http://www.texmacs.org/Tutorial/
]]

TeXmacs in 60 mn :
[[
http://www.fmi.uni-passau.de/~seidl/texmacs/tmtour.html
]]

and also a (work in progress & a little bit more technical) tutorial I wrote myself :
[[
http://www.ags.uni-sb.de/~henri/texmacs/
]]

Finally, there is the TeXmacs help, available in the Help menu (if your computer is online, you
can download all the help doing Help/Online help/Update from web). This help is perhaps also
included in the tarball you downloaded with Fink. Otherwise, the help files are in the CVS at :
[[
http://www.texmacs.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/doc/
]]

And last but not least, you can find some examples of real mathematical papers written using
TeXmacs in :
[[
http://www.texmacs.org/Examples/
]]

Best, Henri
