Thanks a lot! This works fine :-)
Strange enough, the size of the result now is larger instead of smaller,
which I would have expected when one is compressing a screenshot as gif or
png instead of jpg. But the size is no problem for me.

Agreed. Especially because in scientific texts I think most bitmaps will
be diagrams or other computer-generated images which are better encoded as
png than as jpg.
