Joris,
Sorry for the dumb question, but I can't figure out how to actually use this macro to label an equation.
I'm sure using macros is documented somewhere, but I can't seem to find where.

Is it possible to label an equation in TeXmacs by an arbitrary symbol?
In LaTeX, using the amsmath package, this is done using \tag{}, e.g. \tag{*}, if I want the equation labelled by a "*".
Sure, use the "equation-lab" macro.
