- Subject: [TeXmacs] Announcement: New version of TeXmacs.app for MacOS X Tiger
- Date: Fri, 03 Mar 2006 22:41:29 +0100
Hi,
I just wanted to announced the next alpha version of an application
bundle for MacOS X Tiger. It can be downloaded at
http://www.math.uni-bremen.de/~ovidius/texmacs.dmg.zip
The source code (XCode 2.2) for the starter is available at
http://www.math.uni-bremen.de/~ovidius/texmacsstarter-src.zip
Installation is simple just copy the application inside the .dmg-file
into your favorite folder, e.g. Applications.
The application bundle includes TeXmacs 1.0.6, Ghostscript 8.5 and
Guile-CVS, freetype, so there are no real requirements to using TeXmacs
other then X11.
For optimal use an installed version of teTeX is recommended.
Important differences to other platforms:
1.) TeXmacs preferences in standard Mac OS X location, i.e.
/Users/username/Library/TeXmacs
2.) ttf search path is only in /Users/username/Library/TeXmacs/fonts/ttf
3.) Some plugins (R, shell) do not work, because I am waiting for the main
TeXmacs tree to incorporate the necessary patches.
4.) An log of the output of TeXmacs can be found in
/Users/username/Library/TeXmacs/run.log
Things, I am not happy with:
0.) I want to support older versions of Mac OS X, but I have no platform
for testing.
In principle this version should run on Mac OS X 10.3.9 aka Panther.
Things, I would like to include:
1.) Semi automatic import of ttf fonts, i.e. automatic generation of
menu etc. (The menu is already there but does not do anything right now).
2.) The "Convert" and the "Print" menu do nothing yet
3.) Spotlight plugin
Known bugs:
On some platforms there seems to be a problem with fonts. If you notice
any problem there. Please send me your run.log and your system
configuration i.e. Mac OS X version, processor etc.
So, give it a try and give feedback.
Yours,
Ingolf
P.S. This application is not a universal binary, only the wrapper is, so
don't be confused by that. Anyone with an Intel-based Mac offering help
is very welcome.
